Mixbook's list was made by surveying 3,000 families to discover which of the popular festive destinations they'd most like to visit this season, the website says.

Coming in at No. 5 is Alexandria, VA which Mixbook says "embodies the spirit of the holiday season with its unique blend of history and festive charm." The site notes "picturesque" streets lined with historic, brick buildings. Add the Christmas lights and snow, that's an idyllic holiday stroll.

Alexandria offers several Christmastime events including a popular Scottish Christmas Walk Parade, candlelight tours, and more. Click here for a list of holiday activities in Alexandria.

Frederick, MD is listed at No. 26, while Bethesda is at No. 34, and Williamsburg is at No. 38.
